…you have left your first love.
It is so easy to drift away from God, and have no clue we are doing it. This happens to so many churches – still going thru all the motions and obligations of ministry yet the fire is gone. How do we let this happen? Actually the natural tendency of human nature is to go toward decline. Movements digress into methods. Methods degenerate into monuments of what it once was.
I see so many churches trying to be relevant and edgy. Trying to move on to the next thing that will bring the “new and exciting” to worship and church growth. Sadly, in the process they somewhere leave behind the first things for second things. It is essential in all we do that we keep our focus on our love relationship with God. Our first and great objective is to love the Lord with all our hearts, minds, and strength. Everything flows from this. Always remember second things follow first things. Without the first things firmly in place, we dare not go to the next thing.
In Exodus 33, after the people had rejected God for a golden calf, God instructs Moses to take the people on to the Promised Land. God tells Moses that He will send an angel ahead of them but He, His Presence, would not be going with them. Moses cries out to God, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” God honors his desperate plea by pledging to go with them. Moses understood what we sometimes fail to – it is only God’s Presence that makes the difference. He is must be first; He must be only!
Please read Revelation 2:1-7 asking the Lord to reveal anything that you may have allowed to replace first things in your life.
